Randall I. Furman, D.D.S.
Virginia Beach, VA Dentist
Lynnhaven Smiles
Dr. Furman is a native of Norfolk, VA, graduating from Granby High School in 1970. At the age of 16, he hoped to become a dentist when an accident required him to have some extensive dental work done on his front teeth. The owner of the dental lab was a friend of his fathers and Dr. Furman was able to observe how the perfection in the lab work necessary to repair his teeth was similar to the hobby he enjoyed building trophy winning model cars, boats and airplanes. He then went on to work at that dental lab during the summer before dental school.
Dr. Furman completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, majoring in Biology. After 3 years of studies, he was accepted into the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry as one of the youngest students accepted into the graduating class of 1977.
Dr. Furman opened his solo practice in 1978 in the Lynnhaven area of Virginia Beach. In 2006, after 27 years of practicing there, the old office was torn down to make way for his new, high tech office in the same location near Lynnhaven Mall.
Mandy
Mandy, our lead dental assistant is a native of Central Pennsylvania. Soon after graduating High School in 1993, she relocated to the Virginia Beach area. After graduating from the Career Development Center with honors in 1997, she began her dental career and joined our practice in 2004. Mandy has honed her skills through many continuing education programs, most recently in Las Vegas and Orlando as well as completing an assistant's sedation course through the American Dental Society of Anesthesia in Puerto Rico.
Mandy has been Dr. Furman's "extra hands" for the past 7 years and is proficient in all aspects of dentistry. Aside from her exceptional dental assisting skills, she has been a calming and supportive presence for our patients as well as a pleasure to work with.
Lorraine
Lorraine is a native ofthe Boston, MA area. She received her Bachelors of Nursing Degree from the University of Alaska School of Nursing before moving to Florida and then to Virginia Beach. After practicing geriatric nursing for 8 years, Lorraine began using her nursing skills in anesthesia support for an Oral Surgeon. She enjoyed working in the dental field so much, that over time she learned not only the clinical side of dentistry but enjoyed being part ofthe business side of a dental practice.
As her expertise in the dental field grew, she became a dental practice manager and managed several dental practices in the area. Her experience led her to become a Dental Practice Consultant and has trained many dental practices across the country as a Certified Trainer for Dentrix Dental Systems Software as well as assist offices in practice management. Lorraine has brought to the practice well over 20 years of dental experience and professionalism and has been with us since 2006.
Amanda
You may occasionally see Dr. Furman's daughter, Amanda helping out when she is not attending college at George Washington University, where she is studying in hopes of following in her father's footsteps.
Amanda helps with general office duties as well as assisting Dr. Furman when needed. She has completed her x-ray certification at the School of Dental Hygiene at Old Dominion University. Amanda is already a great asset to our office and we love having her here (especially her Dad) when she is not attending college.
Chrissy
Chrissy is the newest member to join our dental team after recently moving to the area with her husband to pursue his Masters degree in teaching at ODU. Chrissy has always aspired to work in dental hygiene ever since she was a little girl. The daughter of a dentist in Northern Virginia, she would pretend to clean the teeth on her Barbie as a child ....and knew she would follow in her father's profession as an adult.
An honors graduate from the dental hygiene program at Wytheville Community College in Virginia, she volunteered in the community while attending school. During her free time, she also donated many hours to the local free clinic serving the needy in southwestern Virginia Appalachian counties.
Chrissy has an infectious personality and a great work ethic that will leave you with a sparkling smile.
Jackie
Although Dr. Furman's wife Jackie has plenty to do taking care of Dr. Furman and their three daughters Erica, Marissa and Amanda, she can often be seen helping out at our front desk. Although she is x-ray certified and a great dental assistant, she prefers the social interactions taking place up front. Voted most talkative in her senior year at Kellam High (1975), she loves conversing with patients and putting them at ease. She always brightens up the office with her presence.
