Dentist in Virginia Beach, VA

The brief descriptions below are designed to familiarize you with our staff's training, professional credentials and work experience.

Virginia Beach, VA Dentist Dr. Randall I. Furman

Randall I. Furman, D.D.S.

Virginia Beach, VA Dentist

Lynnhaven Smiles

Dr. Furman is a native of Norfolk, VA, graduating from Granby High School in 1970. At the age of 16, he hoped to become a dentist when an accident required him to have some extensive dental work done on his front teeth. The owner of the dental lab was a friend of his fathers and Dr. Furman was able to observe how the perfection in the lab work necessary to repair his teeth was similar to the hobby he enjoyed building trophy winning model cars, boats and airplanes. He then went on to work at that dental lab during the summer before dental school.

Dr. Furman completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, majoring in Biology. After 3 years of studies, he was accepted into the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry as one of the youngest students accepted into the graduating class of 1977.

Dr. Furman opened his solo practice in 1978 in the Lynnhaven area of Virginia Beach. In 2006, after 27 years of practicing there, the old office was torn down to make way for his new, high tech office in the same location near Lynnhaven Mall.

Mandy
Mandy, our lead dental assistant is a native of Central Pennsylvania. Soon after graduating High School in 1993, she relocated to the Virginia Beach area. After graduating from the Career Development Center with honors in 1997, she began her dental career and joined our practice in 2004. Mandy has honed her skills through many continuing education programs, most recently in Las Vegas and Orlando as well as completing an assistant's sedation course through the American Dental Society of Anesthesia in Puerto Rico.

Mandy has been Dr. Furman's "extra hands" for the past 14 years and is proficient in all aspects of dentistry. Aside from her exceptional dental assisting skills, she has been a calming and supportive presence for our patients as well as a pleasure to work with.

Kim

Kim is originally from San Diego CA, however, coming from a military family she moved  to Virginia Beach at the age of 12. She graduated from Bayside High School in 1999. She began her career in the Dental industry 15 years ago. Kim joined our team in April of 2014. In addition to her many years as a patient care coordinator, she is also an x-ray technician and dental assistant.

Kim completed her X-ray certification at Old Dominion University.  Using her Dental credentials and knowledge of office operations, Kim manages the front desk of the office to optimize the patient experience. Her commitment extends beyond the patient’s dental care. Kim ensures that the visit to Dr. Furman’s office is just as professional as the treatment given by the rest of the staff.  Kim has an infectious personality and great work ethic.  She has proven herself to be a very important part of our team.

Kara

Kara, our newest member to the team is a native of Northeast Ohio, recently moving to Virginia Beach in 2015.  Kara has always aspired to work in the dental field since she was a little girl.  She strives to assure everyone enjoys going to the dentist as much as she always has.  Kara loves to laugh and has a positive, friendly personality.

Kara graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northern Virginia Community College with a Degree in Dental Hygiene.  She is x-ray certified, as well as, certified to administer local anesthesia.  While in school, she served as Treasurer of her school’s student American Dental Hygienist Association and enjoyed planning and managing all community volunteer activities.  Outside of work, Kara likes to stay active and spend time with family and friends.  She enjoys going to the beach, hiking, running and almost anything else that takes her outdoors.

Jackie
Although Dr. Furman's wife Jackie has plenty to do taking care of Dr. Furman and their three daughters Erica, Marissa and Amanda, she can often be seen helping out at our front desk. Although she is x-ray certified and a great dental assistant, she prefers the social interactions taking place up front. Voted most talkative in her senior year at Kellam High (1975), she loves conversing with patients and putting them at ease. She always brightens up the office with her presence.

Amanda
You may occasionally see Dr. Furman's daughter, Amanda helping out when she is not attending college at George Washington University, where she is studying in hopes of following in her father's footsteps.

Amanda helps with general office duties as well as assisting Dr. Furman when needed. She has completed her x-ray certification at the School of Dental Hygiene at Old Dominion University. Amanda is already a great asset to our office and we love having her here (especially her Dad) when she is not attending college.

Susan
Originally from Arizona, Susan recently relocated to Virginia Beach with her family.  Susan brings her pleasant demeanor and bright personality to our front desk.  Susan joined our team in July of 2016.  Always eager to please, Susan is our billing specialist. Skilled in the Dentrix software with more than 10 years of dental management, she will gladly answer your questions about your dental benefits. She has been a BETA software tester for the company that writes our dental software, becoming a valuable asset to our practice.  This is her true passion, to train this software to dental assistants and front office staff to maximize the efficiency that this program is capable of achieving.  Owner of her own consulting company, she avidly posts on the Dentrix Users website and attends dental trade shows when in the area. She has assisted offices in dentist transitions in Arizona.  She is x-ray certified and will assist Dr. Furman chairside when needed, smiling with helping hands.  In her spare time she enjoys worldly travels and time with her grandchildren.
